Submission Guidelines
Gotham Literature publishes short-form creative content that can be read by most people in under 5 minutes.
We accept submissions on an ongoing basis, and are seeking flash fiction, poetry, comics, and dialogue, although we will consider submissions that don't fit neatly into these categories.
Content Guidelines
We aim to make it easy to incorporate literature into daily life (a poem while you poop, a comic while you commute, a story while you stand on line). We also want to make high-quality lit accessible, meaning we are trying to reach people who are not already plugged into literary circles.
With this in mind, we are seeking content that:
-
Can be read by most people in under 5 minutes (1,200 words is the absolute max)
-
Contains language and themes that will resonate with an audience that is not already familiar with literary techniques / devices (we love content that makes readers go wow, but not huh?)
We are not seeking non-fiction writing such as essays, reviews, interviews, and memoir.
Content Rights and Permissions
In submitting content for publication, the author grants us:
-
Exclusive digital publishing rights for one year, and non-exclusive digital rights thereafter.
-
This includes the right to promote the content on Gotham Literature's social media channels and email newsletters.
-
-
Exclusive audio publishing rights for one year, and non-exclusive audio rights thereafter.
-
If we publish an audio version of a piece, we will coordinate with the author to determine who will read the piece and how it will be recorded.
-
All other rights remain with the author.
-
If Gotham Literature wants to publish your content in a medium other than digital/audio (e.g. in print, or on merchandise such as clothing / wall art), we will reach out to you with a new contract.
For more details see the Gotham Literature Writer Agreement.
Compensation
Gotham Literature's goal is to introduce a digital subscription model for short-form literature and pay writers a portion of the revenue their content generates. However, we do not expect to launch our subscription model until 2026, and can only offer one-time payments for content in the meantime.
-
Gotham Literature currently offers a one-time payment of $50 for unsolicited pieces we publish.
-
When our subscription model launches we will reach out to authors to offer a new contract that will outline how this revenue will be shared.
